FAQs

How to find the right tyres for me

Finding the correct tyre size for your vehicle is crucial for optimal performance and safety. To quickly find your tyre size you can use our search by registration feature! See on the homepage here: https://tirestreets.gorgias.com/app/ticket/%3Ca%20data-fr-linked=" id="isPasted" style="-webkit-user-select: auto;">https://tirestreets.co.uk/

Alternatively, you can check what size you currently have on your car by reading the sidewall of the tyre. Usually it's displayed like this 205/55 R16. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you determine the right tyre size.

  1. Width: The initial set of numbers denotes the width of the tyre, measured from tread to sidewall in millimetres. Example: 205 = 205mm

  2. Profile: The next two numbers represent the tyre's profile, indicating its height as a percentage of the width. Example: 55 = The height is 55% of the tyre's width.

  3. Rim Size: The wheel size is composed of two components.

    • R = Tyre Construction: Denoting a radial ply construction, which is standard for car tyres.
    • 16 = Rim Diameter: Indicates a 16-inch rim.
  4. Load: The load index is a numeric value indicating the tyre's maximum load capacity. Different tyres have varying load indexes to accommodate a range of vehicle weights. Example: 91 = Load index

  5. Speed: The speed symbol signifies the tyre's speed capability. It is crucial to match the speed symbol with the intended vehicle use to ensure safe operation. Example: V = Speed Symbol

When buying tyres in the UK, several factors should be considered to ensure you make an informed decision that aligns with your vehicle's needs and your driving preferences. Here are key considerations:

1. Tyre Size and Specifications:

   - Refer to your vehicle's manual or the sidewall of your current tyres to identify the correct size and specifications.

   - Ensure that the chosen tyres meet the load index and speed rating recommended for your vehicle.

2. Seasonal Needs:

   - Choose tyres based on the prevailing weather conditions in the UK.

   - Summer tyres are suitable for warmer weather, while winter tyres offer better traction in cold and icy conditions.

   - All-season tyres are a compromise, providing acceptable performance in various conditions.

3. Tread Pattern and Performance:

   - Consider the tread pattern that matches your driving conditions. For example, deeper treads are beneficial for wet or winter conditions.

   - Check the EU tyre label for information on fuel efficiency, wet grip, and external noise.

4. Budget and Brand:

   - Establish a budget for your tyre purchase but be cautious not to compromise safety for cost savings.

   - Recognized tyre brands often have a reputation for quality, but some lesser-known brands can offer good performance as well. Do some research on customer reviews and ratings.

5. Fuel Efficiency:

   - Consider the fuel efficiency of the tyres, as indicated by the EU tyre label. A higher-rated tyre can contribute to fuel savings over time.

6. Wet Grip Performance:

   - Wet grip is crucial for safety in rainy conditions. Look for tyres with a good wet grip rating on the EU label.

7. Noise Levels:

   - The external noise produced by tyres can affect comfort. Check the EU label for information on noise levels and choose a tyre that meets your preference.

8. Driving Style:

   - Consider your driving habits and style. If you have a sporty driving style, you might prefer high-performance tyres, while comfort-focused drivers may opt for touring or all-season tyres.

9. Mileage Warranty:

   - Some tyres come with a mileage warranty. Consider this if you are looking for long-lasting tyres.

10. Professional Advice:

    - Speak with a member of the team. We live and breathe all things tyres! We will speak to you about what you are looking for and we can advise you what the best option we have for you is.

By taking these factors into account, you can make an informed decision when purchasing tyres in the UK, ensuring safety, performance, and longevity for your vehicle.

The load index of your tyre serves as a crucial factor in establishing the maximum weight capacity each tyre can bear. To locate the load index, refer to the tyre size information section.

It is imperative not to surpass the designated maximum weight limit, as doing so may render your insurance null and void.

For guidance on determining the load capacity of your tyres, please consult the table provided below:

To ascertain the maximum speed capability of your tyre, it's essential to identify the tyre speed rating. For a refresher on locating this information, refer to the tyre size details section.

It is crucial to confirm that the speed rating of your tyres is appropriate for your vehicle, as surpassing it could lead to voiding your insurance coverage.

Once you have determined the tyre speed rating, consult the table provided below:

Since 1st July 2012, European regulations stipulate that it's a legal requirement in the EU for tyres to be labelled with performance information in a graded diagram.

The aim is to help you understand how different tyres can impact your vehicle, safety, and driving style. Fuel economy, braking in wet conditions, and external noise categorise the performance grading.

You will find that fuel economy performance is graded A to G, which is the same as household appliances. A is the highest grade and G is the lowest. As tyres contribute towards the amount of fuel that your vehicle consumes, it means that you could save around 80 litres of fuel over their lifetime, resulting in a significant cash saving.

Like fuel economy performance, braking performance is graded from A to G too. So, the lower the grade, the longer the braking difference. This means that lower grades are much better and safer as there is a significant difference between each grade – on average one or two car lengths.

The final performance label gives a breakdown of the external noise that will come from the tyre while you’re driving. It’s measured by decibels and is illustrated by black sound waves. There are three levels which are:

One black wave – the noise level is low Two black waves – the noise level is average Three black waves – the noise level is higher than what is permitted in the EU

All of the information above shows the sheer importance of tyre labelling and how it can significantly impact your safety and other motorists around you.

A 30 day free trial for tyres...

Tire Streets believes in a world where quality isn’t only expected, but it’s guaranteed. That’s why we created the 30-Day Ride or Return Guarantee. It’s actually quite simple; you buy a set, you ride on them for 30 days, and if you don’t like them, return them.

The way it works:

  1. Buy your first set of tyres from Tire Streets.
  2. Drive on them for up to 30 days.
  3. If you’re unsatisfied with them, simply return them (we'll collect them).
  4. We'll refund your money minus a collection fee of £10.

Rules and Exceptions:

  1. The 30-Day Ride or Return Guarantee only applies to the first set (up to 4) of tyres you buy, any additional tyres driven on will not qualify for this policy.
  2. The customer covers the cost of shipping back to us (a collection fee of £10)

Whats the catch?

I can shred 12 tyres and in 30 days you will take them back?

Not exactly! All Ride or Return claims are only applicable to your first set (up to 4 tyres) and first purchase.

I bought in bulk with my friends. Can I return my set?

This gets complicated. The Ride or Return Guarantee is only valid on a customers' first set (4). So if your friends have already bought from us the claim is void.

Ok, so really what's the catch?

No catch here! If you choose to return your tyres you just need to contact us and we can have them collected from you, hassle free.

*the collection fee will match the shipping paid by the customer on their original order.
